Rev. Pile is the Director of Missions of the Ohio Valley Baptist Association, which is headquartered at Sturgis, Kentucky.

Peggy E. Grant, Administrative Team Manager, Head Start

• Peggy E. Grant

  The immediate past president of the Kentucky Head Start Association (KHSA), Ms. Grant presently serves as administrative team manager for Audubon Area's Head Start. She formerly served as director of the Ohio Valley Education Cooperative (OVEC) Head Start based in Shelbyville, Kentucky. OVEC is a cooperative of several school districts in the area north and east of Louisville. She is a 1995 Johnson & Johnson Fellow, a prestigious management credential in the Head Start community. She has also served KHSA as its first vice president of the Kentucky Head Start Association (KHSA) and assistant secretary of the Region IV Head Start Association. Ms. Grant joined the AACS in 1982. She served as Assistant Head Start Director 1985-91. While with the AACS, she served as KHSA's bulletin editor and in a number of other KHSA leadership roles. She and her family still maintain their residence in the Owensboro area.

• William C. Staples. Mr. Staples retired as AACS, Inc. Associate Director on May 29, 1998, after twenty-six years of service. Click on his name above to go to his biography.

• Linda K. Likins.

  Ms. Likins is presently associated with the Devereaux Foundation of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Previously, she was the Director of Policy with the National Center for Family Literacy in Louisville, Kentucky, where she resides. Immediately preceding that she served as Director of Governmental Affairs with the National Head Start Association 1993-95 in Alexandria, Virginia/Washington, D.C. She distinguished herself there as she has everywhere she has served: In February 1994, Ms. Likins received the Region IV Head Start Association's Humanitarian Award, which she had so richly earned. She had joined the Kentucky Department of Education in 1990 as KERA-Head Start Collaboration Director. Previous to that, Ms. Likins was associated with the AACS for seventeen years. She served as AACS Head Start Director/Director of Child Development 1985-90. She had also served as Specially-Funded Cluster Coordinator and Education Coordinator.

• Nancy L. Doctor.

  Ms. Doctor served a mumber of terms as President of the National Association of Senior Companion Program Directors. She also served the Association previously as its Secretary. Ms. Doctor directed the AACS Senior Companion Program from its inception in 1976. Ms. Doctor "retired" from the AACS in 1986 when she and her husband, David, moved to Louisville where he relocated his gas reselling business. Now again in Louisville, she is associated with Senior House — as previously, when she resided in Louisville — and does consulting work. After David sold his business to a Texas firm, the Doctors lived for a time in Houston, Texas.

• Dr. Robert L. "Landy" Lawrence, IV.

  Dr. Lawrence served as AACS Head Start Director/Director of Child Development 1980-84. He then moved to Atlanta, Georgia, to become director of the DeKalb EOA Head Start, serving there until 1994 when he became Head Start Collaboration Director for the State of Georgia. After moving to Atlanta and enrollong in the doctoral program of Georgia State University, Mr. Lawrence become Doctor Lawrence — for which we at Audubon Area are most proud of him.
  Ms. Lawrence is Marsha Wilson Lawrence, formerly of Owensboro. She is now the Head Start Bureau Chief for Region IV's Administration for Children and Families, DHHS, Atlanta.

• Kimberly Lovell.

Kim formerly initiated and directed Audubon's Earlu Head Start program. She presently serves as director of the Ohio Valley Education Cooperative (OVEC) Head Start based in Shelbyville, Kentucky. OVEC is a cooperative of several school districts in the area north and east of Louisville.

• Cornelia Belle.

  Ms. Belle was the Business and Professional Women of Kentucky's 1994-95 Woman of Achievement. When she received the award she was executive director of the Aaron McNeil Multipurpose Center in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. She had left the AACS Head Start in 1992 to take that position. Previously, she had worked for seventeen years in Head Start, joining the AACS in 1979 when the AACS assumed sponsorship of the program in the Pennyrile Area Development District. She moved through the ranks at the AACS and served for many years before leaving the AACS as Area Assistant in charge of the Pennyrile Area Head Start operations. She and her husband, the Rev. H.H. Belle, pastor of the Durrett Avenue Baptist Church, reside in Hopkinsville.

• Daisy B. James, AACS Board Chairperson, 2002-2004 (Daviess County) / Green River District Health Department (Retired)

  Ms. James continues her active service on the AACS Board of Directors as an elected Consumer Sector representative. She is a member of the Executive Committee and Investment/Oversight Committee. She is very active in her church, where she serves as its longtime treasurer. She is an avid member of the Kentucky Wesleyan College "Panther Express" traveling fan club. Ms. James is also active in numerous community betterment and citizen involvement groups and initiativies throughout the Owensboro community.

• John E. McNulty

  Mr. McNulty was recently a top aide to then Kentucky Lieutenant Governor, Dr. Steve Henry, in Frankfort, where he and his wife, Frankie, resided. Mr. McNulty was chairman of the AACS 1980-82. He is the only CAA Board chairperson to serve as president (1981-82) of the Kentucky Association for Community Action (KACA). In 1981-82, he led the joint KACA-Cabinet for Human Resources effort to implement the then new Community Services Block Grant (CSBG). Mr. McNulty was also the last Board Chair of the Owensboro Area Economic Opportunity Council, Inc. (one of the parent agencies of the AACS) in 1974-75, when the merger between the Henderson and Owensboro CAA agencies was consumated. He was during the 1970s the chief financial officer of the Green River Comprehensive Care Center, now the RiverValley Behavioral Health organization. During the 1980s and until taking the position with Lt. Governor Henry, he was an Owensboro businessman. During the 1998 Congressional campaign season, McNulty took a leave of absence from the Lt. Governor's staff to serve as Campaign Director for former First District Congressman Tom Barlow's bid for re-election.

• Hon A.G. Pritchett.

  A former Henderson County Judge/Executive--as he was while serving as AACS Board Chair in 1982-84, the Honorable A.G. Pritchett for many years represented Henderson County in the Kentucky House of Representatives. He continues his service in the Kentucky General Assembly. He is also a successful businessman and farmer.

• F. Charlene Powell

  Ms. Powell ably served as AACS Board Chair 1987-90, then a resident of Hancock County, Kentucky, and engaged in banking. In January 1995, Ms. Powell was named to oversee public relations and human resources for Hudson Foods, Inc.(now Tyson's), which ultimately employed 1,300 people in Henderson County. Tyson's plant is located near Robards, and has satelite operations in Sebree and in McLean County. She now works in her human resources role at Tyson's corporate/national level. Ms. Powell served 1992-94 as administrative assistant to then Kentucky First District U.S. Representative Tom Barlow. Prior to that she was executive director of both the Owensboro and Henderson Labor-Management organizations. She was secretary-treasurer of the Kentucky Labor-Management Association. She has served as a director of the Henderson Chamber of Commerce. She and her husband, Mike, reside in Lewisport, Kentucky.

• Fannie B. Dorsey, 1907-1992. In Memoriam and Tribute

  1986-87 AACS Board Chair Fammie B. Dorsey, 84, died October 5, 1992, but she was an extraordinary woman whose life and example must be remembered. She will always be remembered for her guiding philosophy of life, which she shared often with others, "Why are we here except for the good of others?" She was driven by high idealism, noble dreams, and great expectations. She inspired everyone around her. She made a great impact on others throughout her life.

  She served Kentucky Governor John Y. Brown and the Commonwealth of Kentucky as director of the Kentucky Division for Aging Services 1980-81. She made a great impact on many people while teaching at both elementary and high school levels, but upon her retirement from teaching, she became a tireless advocate for aging services. She was an active Methodist churchwoman and served on so many other boards and supported so many worthy causes that they would be far to numerous to note here.

  Fannie Boone was born in Union County, Kentucky, but graduated from Owensboro's Western High School. She received r teaching degree from Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Indiana, and married the late Rev. Irby Dorsey there in 1942.
