KentuckyWorks
and
Senior Community Service Employment Program
KentuckyWorks Program. Since July of 2007,
AACS has worked alongside the Kentucky Department of Community Based Services to administer
the Kentucky Works Program (KWP) in the thirty-four counties of the Green River, Barren River,
Pennyrile and Purchase area development districts.
KWP is designed to help Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) recipients move from
reliance upon public assistance to self-sufficiency. A wide range of transitional services are
provided to DCBS-referred TANF clients to assist them in tranisitioning to gainful employment
and self reliance beyong their federally mandated five year limit for receiving public assistance.
The KWP program offers a variety of services that focus on career assessment,
development and placement. Clients can be placed at a non-profit agency
where they volunteer their time in exchange
for on the job training; they can be put into the paid wage subsidy component
in which employers provide job skills training during which time the program
pays up to 75% of the client’s wages;
or program staff will help clients locate regular, unsubsidized employment.
Job Readiness Activities. A new component was added to KWP in the Green River and Barren River areas in July of 2008 – Job
Readiness Activities (JRA). This component provides monthly training sessions of between 20 and 30
hours per week to our most at-risk clients. The goal of JRA is to provide participants with the
skills necessary to move into any of the regular components of the KWP program.
Senior Community Service Employment Program. In addition, AACS administers another "job transition"
service for lower-income persons (125% of the poverty scale or below) and who are age 55 and above.
Eligible persons are placed at public and non-profit work sited to gain work experience and develop
skills.
