Director, Free To Grow
Ann is a native of Shelbyville, Kentucky, where she graduated from Shelby County High School. She received her Bachelor of Social Work degree in May, 1990 from Eastern Kentucky University and her Social Work Licensure in 1992.
Ann was selected after an intensive search and selection process to head the Owensboro Free To Grow Project. Audubon and Owensboro really got a great individual to head this high profile and crucial-to-the-community, five-year, national demonstration program funded by The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. The overarching purpose of the program is to create a more nurturing environment for young children by mitigating substance abuse, strengthening communities' internal functional strength and viability, and strengthen the family functioning of a limited number of families identified as at risk for substance abuse. The project is now in its initial two-year project model-development phase. The implementation phase will begin in the Fall of 1996.
Ann's energy, creativity, inspirational qualities, people- and project-management skills, and dedication to the success of the Free To Grow project development and ultimate success of the Owensboro project and its subsequent replication to other communities.
Before moving to Owensboro, Ann worked in Shelbyville as a case manager at the Multi Purpose Community Action Agency for a year before she married and moved to Owensboro. She then joined the Green River Comprehensive Care Center where she worked as a triage worker at GRCCC's Morehead Center. She also worked at the GRCCC Substance Abuse Center and then as the court support program coordinator for the seven-county Green River area. Ann gained valuable experience there and increased her diagnostic skills in the field of substance abuse.
Ann is married to Russ Cloyd, a mechanical engineer for the Texas Gas Transmission Corporation. She and Russ have lived in Owensboro for four years and consider it home.
Ann enjoys working with people and helping others reach their fullest potential. She is active with the Child Watch Coalition, serves on the Foust Advisory Council, the Central Daviess County Advisory Council, and is a member of the Junior League of Owensboro.
On April 19, 1996, Ann gave birth to Ellis Conner Cloyd. When she is not working—and now careing for her newborn son, Ann enjoys traveling, cooking and spending time with her two favorite pets.
