Meet AACS' 1999-2000 Board Chairperson, Hon. Larry Whitaker, McLean County Judge Executive. He is currently serving his second term as McLean County's Chief elected official. He began his public services 15 years ago as the GRADD Regional Transportation Planner.

In 1987, he was Assistant Director for Community Development and Planning in Kissimmee, Osceloa County, Florida. Later, he worked in the private sector and was special assistant to State House Representative Dorsey Ridley during the 1990 and 1992 Legislative Sessions. He was elected Judge/Executive in 1994. His motivation to hold public office is grounded in a personal belief that sound public policy comes only when elected officials engage the advice of professional staff and the citizenry before enacting policy.

The oldest of four children raised on the family farm at Guffie in McLean County, he was taught that, "You never ask anyone to do something that you would not do yourself." This work ethic is evident in his hands-on approach to government. He strives to be informed and active in all areas of his job that could influence any issue affecting the delivery of public services or the quality of life for the people in this region.

In addition to chairing the Audubon Area Board, Judge Whitaker's involvement on many boards attests to his commitment to service: Chairman of the Green River Area Development District — and the GRADD Regional Transportation Committee and Chairman of the GRADD Regional Water Supply Planning Council. He is Vice President of the Kentucky Association of Counties and Past Chairman Green River District Board of Health. He also serves on the Kentucky County Judge/Executive Association's Legislative Policy Committee, the Kentucky Coal County Coalition, the West Kentucky Corporation, the Kentucky Geographic Information Advisory Committee, and has received several appointments on federal subcommittees and national associations, just to name a few.

Whether it is the 2000 Kentucky Legislative Session, the 106th Congress, or here at home, Judge Whitaker feels public service is of the utmost importance.

Judge Whitaker, Audubon Area welcomes you and looks forward to your leadership through the first millennium year.
