NAACP Owensboro Branch and Audubon Area Community Services Partner To Offer Expungement Clinics Across Region

OWENSBORO, KY (June 8, 2026) – The NAACP Owensboro Branch and Audubon Area Community Services (AACS) are partnering to host a series of expungement clinics aimed at helping individuals clear eligible criminal records and gain access to new opportunities.

Clinics will be held at various locations July 7, 9, 25 and 28, providing free access to legal guidance and support for individuals seeking a fresh start.

The initiative will kick off with a community launch event on June 17, 2026 from 4:00–6:00 p.m. at Foust Elementary School gymnasium, where participants can connect with employers, community partners, and housing providers while learning about the expungement process and available resources.

“These clinics are about more than clearing records—they’re about restoring dignity and creating real pathways forward,” said Michael Johnson, President of the NAACP Owensboro Branch. “Everyone deserves a fair opportunity to work, provide for their families, and contribute to the community. This partnership reflects our commitment to removing barriers and expanding access to justice.”

During the clinic, participants will move through a structured process designed to simplify what can often be a complicated legal system:

  • A re-entry team will pull the participant’s criminal history
  • The participant will meet one-on-one with an attorney
  • The attorney will review the record and determine eligibility for expungement
COSTS AND NEXT STEPS

Participation is free. Required court-related costs for those who proceed with expungement may be covered, subject to available funds.

Participants approved for expungement must:

  • File their petition in the county where the clinic is held
  • Contact the Clerk’s Office
  • Get on the court docket within 30 days
A COMMUNITY-DRIVEN EFFORT

By bringing together legal professionals, workforce partners, and housing providers, the clinics aim to address the broader barriers individuals face after involvement with the justice system.

“Expungement is a powerful tool for helping individuals move from surviving to thriving,” said Samantha Taylor-Kaai, Chief Operating Officer of Audubon Area Community Services. “When we remove barriers to employment and housing, we strengthen families, support economic mobility, and build healthier communities. We’re proud to partner with the NAACP to make these opportunities more accessible.”
